    • Eleanor Marlene Hart was born in Almont, North Dakota, on August 10, 1933. When she was three years old, her family relocated to Portland, Oregon, where she spent most of her childhood. Marlene was selected as a junior Rose Festival princess in the early 1940's. At an early age she started taking piano and violin lessons. She became an accomplished violinist. As a high school student in Portland she was a member of the Portland Junior Symphony. Her family moved to Salem in 1949 and after completing her junior year in Portland, Marlene went to Salem High School where she graduated in 1951.

In October of 1952 Marlene and Walter J. Hart were married. They had two daughters and one son. While raising their children, Marlene pursued her interest in music. She was a charter member of the Salem Pops Orchestra and stayed with that organization for 50 years. She was the concert mistress for most of those years. She also played the violin for other productions and orchestras in the Salem area.

Sometime in the 1970's Marlene began teaching violin to children and continued until she retired. After retirement, she developed an interest in blue grass music and joined a local blue grass group.

Marlene had many other interests such as gardening, knitting, camping and reading. She was a friendly, outgoing person, who loved her family very much. She will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Grace Thor. Survivors include her husband Walter Hart, daughters, Nancy Demezas (Mike) of Salem, Dennel Beadnell (Steve) of Tigard, son, Allen Hart (Sandy) of Klamath Falls, sister, Pat Grimmett of Salem, Grandchildren, Kirstin Demezas, Leslie Bajuscak (Jason), Melissa Hutton (Dan), Annie, Katie, and Ellie Hart, and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church on Baxter Road. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to either the Salem Pops Orchestra or Willamette Valley Hospice. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
