- Now we are going to leave the Kjærulf family briefly and have a look
at the family tree of the noblewoman Bodil Hansdatter Mørk from
Saltumgaard.
There is royal blood in this branch of the Kjærulf family line.
It seems improbable, perhaps almost comical, but it is nevertheless a
fact that in the person of Bodil Hansdatter Mørk we have a connection
between the Kjærulf family and the old Norwegian royal line. This is
not as unique as one might expect. In both Norway and Denmark there
are many families that are able to trace their lines back to Olav
Haraldson and Halvdan Svarte. In the Norwegian publication "Tidskrift
for genealogi" for 1924-25 there is an article by C.M. Munthe
entitled "Vore Fælles ahner" (Our Common Ancestors). In it he shows
that a number of Norwegian civil servant families are descended from
Danish noblewoman Johanne Andersdatter til Asdal (Jutland), who lived
from 1385 to 1479. She gave birth to 18 children in two marriages,
and the descendants of these can be found all over Scandinavia. She
herself is descended from St. Olaf, so all of her descendants are
also related to him.
As a curiosity we have printed the family tree for Bodil Hansdatter
Mørk. We begin at the top and follow it backwards or down the ladder,
which is the opposite of what we do with the Kjerulf line (tree
included in the Norwegian text).
This information on the various lines through the Middle Ages all the
way back to the murky realms of Norway's distant past has been
gathered for the most part from "Adelskalenderen" (Calendar of
Nobility), a yearbook that has collected information about noble
family lines over the years. Norwegian aristocratic families are also
referred to in "Danmarks adels Aarbog" (The Yearbook of Danish
Nobility).
Now we shall return to the descendants of Bodil Hansdatter and Morten
Pederson Kjærulf.
Bodil Hansdatter became a widow early in her life. As was mentioned
earlier, Morten Pedersen Kjærulf died in 1600, and his widow married
Lars Pedersen, assembly clerk and later tax collector for Kjær
township. Bodil Hansdatter and Morten Pedersen had 4 children:
(listed in Norwegian text).
- Vadum Parish Lutheran Church Records.
- He continued to live in East Halne, the same parish in which his
parents lived. He was tax collector for the township of Kjær in 1596.
He died about 1660. He was married to Bodil Hansdatter Mørk from
Saltumgaard, the daughter of the tax collector in Hvetbo township,
Hans Mørk, and his wife, Johanne Vognsdatter, from Hæstrupgaard. Her
father belonged to an old, distinguished family of sail manufacturers
(the term indicates a particular process of weighing the sails). Her
mother belonged to an old aristocratic family.
- He married Bodil Hansd. Mørk, daughter of Hans Mørk & Johanne Vognsd.
Nestrupgaard.
