Henrik Steen is said to have been a pattern for the character Hans Orre in Tryggve Andersen's book: In the Days of the Councillor first published in Norway in 1897. The book is an historical novel about life on and near the Stein Farm in Ringsaker on lake Mjøsa between Hamar and Lillehammer.
matriculated and studied theology at Copenhagen. Later took over Stein farm and the merchant business. He became an atheist and a republican influenced by the literary trends in Europe at the time. He became chairman of the county council around 1837 in Ringsaker.
He was close to Bankrupcy when he died in 1869. His son Johan Wilhelm Emmigrated with his family and the Stein farm was sold at Auction in 1870. The farm burnt down in 1897 and very different buildings are there today.
