Anders set sail for America in May of 1849 at the age of 23 years. He first located at Janesville, WI.

In 1853 he purchased land at Locust Prairie, Iowa.

February 9, 1887 - Knud Gilbertson and Anders B. Foss of Spring Grove called while here on business one day last week. Caledonia Journal.

February 28, 1895- T. I. Doely purchased the Ballard House from A. B. Foss and son.

He has made Spring Grove his home since 1887.

A. B. Foss, Houston County's oldest resident, relinquished his claim as such on Friday morning at 12:10 when he slept peacefully away to the Great Beyond at the age of 95 years, 4 months and 15 days. The venerable Mr. Foss had been in the best of health up to the day before his death, when it was noticed that he was not as well as usual. During the evening he became worse and the doctor was called. At 11 o'clock he dropped into a deep sleep from which he never awakened, death coming quietly and without pain. Funeral services will be held at the resident on Thursday Sept. 15th at one o'clock and immediately after from the church.

1951- Mrs. N. H. Nelson, Mabel, Deat at 95 - Mabel's oldest resident, Mrs Nels H. Nelson died Sunday afternoon at 95. She died at the Spring Grove Hospital wheere she had been a patient for three days. On Thursday evening she suffered a stroke at her home. Funeral services were held at the Mabel First Lutheran Church, Wednesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. P. C. ...ler officiated. Interment was in the Decorah Lutheran Cemetery. A charter member of the AmericanLegion Auxiliary, Joseph B. Lund post, she was in good health until Thursday. The former Barbara Marie Foss, she was born Jun 10, 1856 near Locust, Iowa. February 2, 1878 she was married. Following their marriage they lived ona farm for two years, after which they moved to Decorah where Mr. Nelson was Clerk of Court in Winneshiek County. In 1908 they moved to Mabel, where Mr. Nelson became cashier in the First State Bank. Later he served as president of the firm.
Survivors are five sons: Dr. H. Nelson of Crookston, MN; Augustus, Spokane, WA; George, Sumner, WA; James, Minneapolis, MN; and Norman, St. Paul, MN. Two daughters: Mrs. Lyman (Mabel) Fries, Lime Springs, IA; Mrs. Joseph (Amy)Ensrud, Alexandria, MN. Seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers: Peter and Edward Foss, Spring Grove and Lee Foss, Chatsworth, CA; and three sisters: Mrs. T. L. Doely, Chatsworth CA and Mrs. Julia Walhusand Mrs. Martha Kroshus, Spring Grove, MN. Two sons Arthur and William died in infancy. Her husband died September 27, 1940

He was baptized by the Rev. Clauson and confirmed by the late Rev. S. S. Reque. His early live was spent on the home farm. In 1904 he left here to make his home on a farm in Oregon where he lived for several years. Selling his farm there he returned to Spring Grove for a brief time, only to leave again for Cuba, where he spent some years on a truck farm. Disposing of his interests in Cuba, he returned again to Oregon where he lived until thirteen years ago when he came back to Spring Grove. Since that time he has made his home with his brother Peter.

Spring Grove Herald - May 16, 1901 - B. A. Foss, who is located at Bloomer, Wisconsin, spent part of last week with relatives in the city. While here he disposed of his property, now occupied by the post office to F. E. Joerg, who will fit it up for a photograph gallery.

He was always a strong and healthy man but some days ago became suddenly ill with pneumonia. For a while he seemed better and there were hopes for his recovery but on Monday morning he became suddenly worse and early Wednesday morning February 3, at the home of his sister, Mrs. Anna Joerg, he slept peacefully away. Age 73 years. Brady is the first death in the family of eleven children born to Andrew and Anna Foss.

He is surivived by 12 neices and 26 nephews. Funeral services were held on Saturday from the E. J. Foss home and later from the Trinity Lutheran church. He was buried in the West End Cemetery, Rev. O. Mikkelson officiated.

Caledonia Journal May 3, 1893 - Mr. Brede Foss has entered into partnership with H. Gjerdingen as he has bought the half of his hotel property.

January 18, 1906 - Albert Foss was a business caller at Mabel Friday.

The first three years they were married, they lived on Elise's father's farm. In 1893, they purchased his brother's Brady's farm where they lived until they sold it when they became too to farm. They bought a house in Spring Grove where they now live.

June 29, 1911 - Albert Foss has an elegant house, modern in all its appointments and a fine barn, which by the way was damaged by lightning some time ago. The two cupolas were destroyed by fire but happily the fire was extinguished saving the barn proper. It was fully insured.

June 5, 1913 - Newhouse News - Mr. A. A. foss was a business caller at Mabel Friday.

September 20, 1923 - Our jobbing department has printed auction bills for Martin Peterson, the sale to be held on Saturday September 22nd at his hold home in Highlandville, IA. Mr. Peterson has bought the former A. A. Foss residence in Spring Grove and will soon make his home here.

Dec 13, 1923 - Rev. and Mrs. A. O. Johnson, daughter, Clara and Mr and Mrs. A. A. Foss visited in La Crosse, Monday.

May 15, 1941 - Mr. and Mrs. Albert Foss returned home Tuesday after a visit in various parts of California.

Bids for the basement work will be in this week. Later: Larson Bros. of Starbuck, Minnesota were awarded the contract Tuesday.
