Per: G. E. Elling J. Winjum's father was Jens Ellingsen Winjum (mararied to Anna Olsdtr. Otterness) and he was a brother to Barbro Marie Ellingsdtr. Winjum Lee, who was Elling Olsen Winjum's mother. Their farms in the pioneer days adjoined each other and to the south of them was their brother, Lars E. Winjum, on the homestead that later became the Mons Fladager farm now owned by Wayne and Marion Bunge. Lars E. Winjum was married to the oldest daughter ofEllend and Ase Ytre Lee Skaim #106a (on what was later the Frank and Lois Hahn farm) They arae listed in the 1860-1875 censuses with a daughter Ase. Sometime before 1896, they have gone elsewhere, probably, Dakota Territory, as Mathilda Glasrud Lee, mentions some Winjum relatives in the Dakotas persuading Knut Lee to come out there to homestead which they did--and which Mathilda packed everybody up and moved back to Spring Grove from the Dakota homestead.This Lars Winjum would have been Knut Lee's great-uncle and a fairly reliable person for Knut to trust with his possessions and family to bring to Dakota Territory. The relationship to Knut, as any thing dealing with the Winjums,was completely ignored by Mathilda Glasrud Lee in her conveyance of this to her children.

Spring Grove Herald - April 12, 1906 - The remains of Mrs. Barbo K. Lee, one of the oldest pioneer ladies of Black Hammer, was laid to rest at the Black Hammer cemetery, Saturday, April 7, 1906. She was 82 years of age and had come to America with her husband as early as 1853, when she and her husband located in Black Hammer Township where she resided till her death with occured April 5th, 1906.
Four daughters and 5 sons survive to mourn the loss of a dear mother.

Spring Grove Herald - 9 May 1907 - Aad K. Lee an old resident of this city for about 26 years and an old settler of this county died Thursday May 2, 1907 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Chas Peterson of Waukon, Iowa, where he had gone about two months ago to make his home. Deceased has not been feeling well for about two years and during this time he has had three strokes of paralysis, the last one causing his death.

He is survived by a wife and two children, namely Mrs. Chas. Peterson and Knute A. Lee and four brothers and four sisters who have the sympathy of the whole community in their hour of deep distress. His remains arrived here Friday evening from Waukon and interment was made in the West End Cemetery, Rev. Reque officiated.

Mr. Lee was born April 29, 1848 in Sogn, Norway. He came to this county in 1854 when a boy of six years, with his parents, locating in Minnesota and later in this county whre he grew to manhood. About 33 years ago he was married to Miss Hannah Severson and to this happy union three children were born, two of whom are living. Mr. Lee was a resident of this village 26 years, with the exception of a short time he was out west and had many warm friends here and in the surrounding country.

The following information from Gordon Eddy - (former Shorty Bauer farm). Lars Nielsen Ekse pioneer farm. Wife Anna Eriksdtr. Berdal sister to Johannes Eriksen Berdal on the school land. This farm was later a Carrier farm - Ingeborg Lee Carrier. Then an Aaberg farm - Peter A. and Ingeborg Berekvam Aaberg. Aabergs were from Aberge gard, Sogndal, Sogn.

October, 1938 - Mrs. Ingeborg Carrier, one of the old residents of the Black Hammer and Yucatan communities, passed to her eternal rest, Wednesday, October 26, 1938 at her home in Black Hammer. Death was the result of a long illness. She was born July 23, 1852 in Sogn, Norway, the daughter of Knute Lee and Barbara Winjum, pioneer settlers here, emigrating from Norway. She spent her entire life in Black Hammer, where she grew to womanhood, being reared in a Christian home where she was instructed in the Lutheran faith and confirmed at Spring Grove by the Rev. F. C. Clauson. Mrs. Carrier was twice married, her former marriage to Thorald Winjum, son of Andrew and Ingeborg Winjumand following his death she was married to William Carrier of Yucatan, who died some years ago. Surviving a kind and loving mother are four children: Mrs. (Mary) Henry Thompson of Henrytown; Mrs. (Martha) Lewis Benson; John Winjum; and Tom Winjum of Black Hammer. Other survivors are a sister, Martha (Mrs. Ernest Simpson) of Creswell, Oregon, 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death are the following brothers and sisters, AadLee, Elling Lee, Knute Lee, Amund Lee, Andrew Lee, Jane (Mrs. George Wright), Caroline (Mrs. Thore Holum) and Maria (Mrs. Knute Benson). $11.25 was donated to the work of the church in hr memory. The funeral services were held from the home Saturday and at the Black Hammer Lutheran Church. She was laid to rest in the church cemetery. Rev. E. Borg-Breen officiated at the services. She was one of the old residents of the Black Hammer and Yucatan communities.

Elling Winjum Lee was the son of Barbro Marie's from her first marriage to Ole Larsen Winjum #115 who was a brother to Kjell Larsen Winjum #110.

Per G. E. 11/11/2004- - Brita and Elling Winjum are mentioned in Robert E. A. Lee's book "Mathilda's Journey" as neighbors to Knut and Mathilda Lee in Spring Grove in the early years of Knut & Matilda's marriage. Unfortunately, Robert E. A. Lee did not go into the relationship of the Lees to the Winjums and gathered from the book that Mathilda Glasrud Lee was embarrassed with having an association with these Winjums and surely did not want anyone to conjecture a family relation to them--which there was.

Spring Grove Herald - March 28, 1918 - Suicide by Hanging - Elling O. Winjum, aged about 70 years committed suicide by hanging Tuesday afternoon in a hay shed near his residence on Black Hammer Street.
The body was first discovered by his neighbors about six o'clock who immediately summoned Dr. Helland. He cut down the body and awaited the arrival of Coroner Rhines and County Attorney Dahle, who decided an inquest was unnecessary.
Mr. Winjum was a man who associated with others very little and no reason, other than he had little means of livelyhood can be assigned to the rash act.
Funeral will be held Friday or Saturday from Engell & Sons undertaking parlors, Rev. A. O. Johson officiated.

September 11, 1913 - Knute Lee's new feed barn is nearly completed and he expects to open it for business soon. The building is 100 ft. long and 34 feet wide. It consists of a basement where the horses will be kept, the main floor for rigs and a large hay mow.

January 20, 1927 - K. A. Lee and C. P. Glasrud were in the Twin Cities last week in attendance of the state convention of implement dealers.

Both of the bridal couple are from this vicinity. The young couple were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Ole Olson also of this vicinity, the latter being a sister of the bride.

The bride wore a ankle lenght dress of bright blue flat crepe with dark accessories and she carried a bouquet of rose red carnations. The bridesmaid's dress was also of flat crepe of a deep purple shade with dark accessories.

Mr. and Mrs. Wright will reside on the George Wright farm at Black Hammer which was formerly the bridegrooms father's farm.
