MRS. REV. REQUE DEAD. -- Cancer -- the Persistent and Terrible Disease, finally claimed its victim on Wednesday May 30, 1900
Mr. Reque, (Cecelia Anderson) was born in Kendall Co., or what is known as the Fox River Settlement in Illinois, February 14, 1840. Her father, Bjorn Anderson died in Wisconsn during the cholera plague of 1850 and her mother, who was the first white woman in Albion, Dane Co., Wisconsin departed this life about fifteen years ago.
Cecelia was married to Rev. Styrk S. Reque, in the town of Albion, Dane Co., Wisconsin July 2, 1865 and moved with her husband to Lemonweir, in the same state where he was called professionally. About twenty-nine years ago Rev. Reque was called to his present charge and with his family has resided here since. During his long service here, his wife has been an able and earnest worker by his side. She was a woman of Unusally industrious habits. Besides giving personal attention to her own houshold affairs, she was an ever active friend to the friendless and a deep sympathizer with the afflicted. She was a woman of more than ordinary good health and it was hoped she would be spared to her family and friends for many years to come. But He, whose ways are inscruitable, willed otherwise, and about July 4th last year medical assistance was necessary to ascertain the cause of an ailment appearing on the right side of the head and face near the eye. The result proved her a victim of cancer. The disease worked its way gradually but certainly to the ultimate end and the sufferer's condition as time advance became awful to behold. Relief finally came on Wednesday, May 30th, 1900 at 12:15 a.m. She died as she had suffered, resigned to her fate and hopeful of life eternal.

Deceased leaves, besides her husband, a family of nine children, viz: Syver, Mrs. Anna Catherina Miller, Peter, Willie, Sara, Gerhard, Lars, Otto and Walter and eight brothers and sisters, viz: Andrew Anderson, Mrs. Elizabeth Danielson, Mrs. Martha Johnson of Goodhue County, MN, Rev. Abel Anderson of Montevedio, MN, Mrs. Rev. Torgerson of Worth Co., IA, Brown Anderson of Spring Grove, Dr Albert Anderson of Cambridge and Prof. R. B. Anderson of Madison, WI. Funeral services were conducted from the N. E. L. church in Spring Grove on Saturday June 2nd, 1900 at 11 o'clock and the remains were laid to rest in the new cemetery near the village.

At the funeral of Mrs. Reque, Saturday there were about 1000 people present. The church was crowded to the aisles and many were forced to remain in the entry during the services. Rev. Magelson of Highland Prairie spoke at the house. Prof. Larson of Decorah preached the funeral sermon and Rev. Seehuus also addressed the audience in church while Rev. Nelson conducted services at the grave. Among the immediate relatives of the deceased, from abroad, who were present, we noticed Dr. S. B. Reque of Westby, WI; Dr and Mrs. W. A. Reque of Hillsboro, ND; Lars Reque, Wykoff, MN; Gerhard Reque from the State University and Fred Miller from the Chicago School of Dentistry. Also Prof. and Mrs. R. B. Anderson, Madison; Dr and Mrs. A. C. Amundson, Cambridge, WI; Andrew Anderson, Goodhue Co., MN; Mr. Qualy, Cambridge, WI; Prof and Mrs. L. S. Reque and Prof and Mrs. H. B. Hustvedt, Decorah, IA.

Dr. Anderson died from pneumonia. One daughter and three sons were born to them. He founded the Scandinavian department of the University of Wisconsin, published 60 books and pamplets which was __________Scandinavian history, also served as minister to Denmark, founded and published a weekly newspaper and headed two corporations during his career. In 1874, he published a history entitled "America Not Discovered by Columbus," being the first proponent of the claim that Leif Erickson discovered North America.

At the age of 23, he came to Houston County and was employed as clerk by one Nicholas Koob of Caledonia. About the time of his marriage, Mr. Anderson left the employ of Mr. Koob and for awhile thereafter was engaged in the music business. He then opened a restaurant in Caledonia which he conducted for a short time afterwards serving as deputy sheriff and turnkey under Sheriff Walter Goergen. In March 1881, he came to Spring Grove and opened on Main street the restaurant and confectionery business which he has since conducted, having always remained at the same location. Brown Anderson was in the mercantile and restaurant business for more than fifty years. After his death, thebusiness was continued by his son Albert until his death in 1950 when it passed on to Albert, Jr. He operated it until 1954, then he moved to La Crosse, WI.

Caledonia Journal - May 10, 1893 - B. Anderson is improving his property considerably by leveling up his lot.

January 11, 1894 - Business changes seem to be getting quite numerous in our village of late. The last to which our attention has been called is a deal between Brown Anderson and Messrs. Paulson & Reierson wherein the former turns over to the latater, his entire stock of crockery, glassware and stonewear and receives in return their stock of stationery and plush goods and Brown Andeson will not handle crockery and glassware, that is to say for the present. We, however, have it from good authority that the crockery will in the near future go back to Mr. Andeson, or somewhere else, and that Messrs. Paulson & Reierson will embark in an exclusive Boot and Shoe business. Some may say, that we are talking though our hat, but just you wait and see.

Jun 16, 1904 - The Cement sidewalk builders are here.-- On Tuesday occurred the first move made by Spring Grove for the improvement of our sidewalks when a cement walk was placed around the dwelling of Banker Onsgard. Brown Anderson, the next door neighbor, was the nexty party to take up the good move by handing in his order for both an outside and inside walk. He has been bothered considerable with the water running from the street through his yard every spring and expects to remedy it by building a cement walk. A great many seem to be interested now since the improvement has commenced and if present indications continue there will be a big supply of these walks in town beforelong. Let it boom. We have some of the nicest dwelling properties in the county and with the addition of cement walks, they will be made very attractive.

27 September 1923 - The store buildings of Fred Anderson and Brown Anderson are being treated with a coat of paint, which will materially help the appearance of our Main Street.

12 March 1925 - B. Anderson has added an iceless fountain.

28 Jan 1926 - A deal was completed last week wherby Mervin Langum of Mabel will become associated with Brown Anderson and son Albert in the Confectionary business here. The new firm, which will be conducted under the name of "Anderson & Langum" are making plans for an addition to the present business. They contemplate adding a complete lunch and dinner service. The new firm starts March 1st.

17 February 1927 - For fifty years, Brown Anderson has been a Merchant of Spring Grove, all of which time he has been engaged in the Restaurant business. Recently he disposed of his interests in the Anderson-Langum restaurant tohis son Albert and Mr. Anderson Sr. has retired. Brown made good in his business and is certainily entitled to the vacation that he has just started on.

3 Mar 1927 - The firm of Anderson-Langum was dissolved on Monday. Albert Anderson remaining in the business. We have not learned what Mr. Langum will do.

Another son, Fred, also was in the mercantile business.

Spring Grove Herald - March 19, 1908 - Sudden Death - On Thursday March 5, 1908, Abel Gustav Krogh died of heart failure. He had been complaining for about two weeks, but was able to be up and around, when on Thursday evening atabout nine o'clock he dropped dead. Mr. Krogh was born in Stavanger, Norway, August 4, 1844 and was united in marriage to Miss Guri Halverson in 1864. They came to America 21 years ago the 3rd of June, settling first in this village, remaining here about a year, moving on a farm near Newhouse. Emigrated May 13, 1887 to New York on the Tingvalla Line. Last November Mr. Krogh traded some land in Cass County to Mr. Sherdahl for the Spring Grove Hotel, which business he was conducting at the time of his death. He leaves a widow and six children, namely: Sam of Seattle, Washington, who was not present at the funeral, Mrs. Julius Gilbertson of Yucatan, Lind Krogh of Riceford, Mrs.Art Harstad of Black Hammer and John and Helen at home. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the N. E. L. church, Rev. St. S. Reque officiating.

July 15, 1909 - J. P. Burns who for several months past has had charge of the Spring Grove Hotel, has retired from the hotel business and the former proprietor, Mrs. A. G. Krogh has again taken charge of same. We have not yet learned what Mr. Burns plans are for the future.

Han var å finne i Florø i 1900 tellingen, nærmere bestemt Strandgaten 17.Her bodde ikke Helga men flere med etternavn Berg. Andrea født 1840 i Bergen (yrke handlende), fotografen Kristoffer (1870 - ) og Fredrikka (Dikka) (1875 - ) som er datter til Andrea. Hjalmar er satt opp som S pl her. I folketellingen for Florø 1865 så bor Helga hjemme hos mor sammen med Fredrikka. Han emigrerte til Amerika i 1908. Hjalmar var gift med Anne B. Gilje. Johan Emil giftet seg deretter i 1891 med Gina.

Det registret dåp av et barn i Johanneskirken i Bergen, tre dager etter barnets fødsel. Barnet ble født den 10. februar 1893 og (døpt 13 feb.). Barnets navn var Trygve Frørup. Ginas søster Arnette er ført opp som vitne, men det er altså ingen faddere tilstede. Det står også i kirkeboken at barnet allerede er død? Barn ble sett på som hedninger før de ble døpt tidligere så er dette tilfelle?

Gina vokste opp i Bergen og foreldrene het Bertel og Georgine Christine Andersen

Bertel var ølbrygger og var født på Jølster i 1831 mens Georgine ble født i Bergen i 1834 og var husmor (d. 1909). Familien må ha hatt god økonomi for de hadde boende tre tjenestepiker hos seg. Søstre til Gina var Arnette Johannefødt i 1861, Alfild født 1872, Katinka P. I 1874 og en eldre bror Odin Marius født i 1863. Alle i Bergen. Odin Marius ble senere kontorist og gift med Hanne Eline. I 1904 bor Bertel, Odin Marius med kone samt Gina og Johan Emil på Jægersminde 1. Ved sin død bodde Gina i Astrupsvei 47.



Så hvilke andre barn fikk Johan Emil?

Han er far til Erling von Krogh som ble født 1896 med Gina som mor. Han døde i Bergen i august 1916

Johann Emil fikk også to andre barn med Gina. Det var Haakon født 1901 og Helga Berg von Krogh født 1905 samme år som hans ekskone Helga Berg døde, men hennes mor var Gina.
