Fånge till sin död på Örbyhus1577 Eric XIV of Sweden reigned from 1560-1568, succeeded his father, Gustavus I. Eric was deposed in 1568, and died soon after. Eric XIV, the eldest son of Gustavus I Erickson, succeeded his father to the throne, but was a weakling, and eventually went insane. He imprisoned his cousins, the famous Sture Family, and stabbed to death his cousin, Nils Sture. They were both descended from Sten Sture the elder. King Eric, then declared insane. He was deposed and imprisoned.
