    • Walt Hart passed away November 11, 2014. He was born in Portland, Oregon and later moved with his family to the Four Corners area. Walt graduated from Salem High School and then went on to attend Willamette University and Oregon State University. He graduated from OSU with a degree in civil engineering. After graduation, he married Marlene Thor. They settled into the south Salem area and raised three children - Nancy, Dennel, and Allen.

Walt served a 2 year stint in the Navy at Whidby Island and then went to work for the Oregon Highway Department. He had a long career within the bridge division, eventually becoming State Bridge Engineer for the State of Oregon. After retiring from the State, he went on to do consulting work for CH2MHill and David Evans Associates.

Walter was always an athlete. In high school he ran track, and throughout his life stayed active in sports. He played and umpired softball games, coached women's softball, refereed basketball games and loved to bowl. He continued to bowl until he was 80.

A memorial service will be held December 5th at 1:00 PM at Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem. Donations may be made in his memory to the Grace Center at Willamette Lutheran Retirement Center. Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
